Robert L. DunningHonorary Membership (2003) After being married for over 50 years, he joined his first and only wife to be by the Lord's side. Although, the final few months were a bit of a challenge; his final day was met with grace, courage and no fear. In addition to the son, Mr. Dunning is survived by his older brother Ray and his wife Peggy Dunning, nephews Michael and Desiree Dunning, their children Andrew, David and Beth Dunning, their children Kayla, McKenzie and Tyler. He was preceded in death by the first son Roger Lynn Dunning, his parents Raymond and Gladys Dunning and in-laws Quentin and Larue Hopper. Robert was a graduate of Sam Houston State University where he served as assistant registrar and registrar, before retiring to a life filled with travel both home and abroad, as well as dabbling with gourmet cooking. Mr. Dunning held officer positions in various entities affiliated to the university as well as the Senior Center of Walker County. The family would like to express their appreciation to the attending doctors, nurses, and staff at Huntsville Memorial Hospital as well as the care-givers who assisted Mr. Dunning with his daily chores and projects. Visitation will be held Sunday July 12th from 4:00pm - 6:00 pm at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be Monday morning July 13th at 10:00 am in the Chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow immediately after the service in the Mayes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations may be made to the Robert L. and Ruverna F. Dunning Endowed Scholarship established at Sam Houston State University, Office of University Advancement, Box 2537, SHSU, Huntsville, TX 77342 or to the church or charity of choice.
