Robert JenkinsHonorary Membership
Robert Jenkins began his journey in higher education in 1977 as a Freshman Orientation Counselor at Sam Houston State University, an experience that sparked his lifelong passion for student services. Working alongside mentors and TACRAO leaders George "Moose" Morton and Sam Bass, he represented SHSU at high school events and campus tours, setting the stage for a rewarding career in service. After earning a degree in Photography, Robert joined Shell Research and Development, where he worked as a research photographer and earned an MBA from Houston Baptist University. Throughout this time, Robert and his wife Diane, also an SHSU Bearkat, continued their connection to higher education by representing SHSU at college fairs in Houston. In 1988, Robert transitioned fully back into higher education, joining the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) School of Nursing. Initially planning a short tenure, Robert found his true calling, remaining with the university for 36 years. Nine months in, he was recruited by his mentor, Lois Monroe—known affectionately by Robert as "TACRAO royalty"—to serve as Assistant Registrar. Introduced to TACRAO in 1989, Robert was instantly captivated by the association and its community, which became a professional home for the next three decades. Robert advanced to Associate Registrar and then to Registrar in 2004, dedicating himself to serving UTHealth Houston with integrity and distinction. His career was marked by many achievements, yet he’s most proud of the balance he struck between work and family. Married to Diane since 1981, Robert is the proud father of three—Megan, Amanda, and Robbie—and a delighted grandfather of four. He cherishes the life he built with Diane, who still loves to dance, and his grandchildren, who keep him active and full of joy. TACRAO has been a professional cornerstone of Robert’s life, and we are honored to recognize him today for his achievements. TACRAO please join me in a round of applause for Robert Jenkins. |
