Oscar ReynaHonorary Membership
It is an honor and privilege to introduce TACRAO’s newest honorary member, Oscar Reyna. Oscar has served in higher education for the past 27 years in South Texas. He began his career at Texas A&M University-Kingsville where he last served as Associate Registrar and Associate Director of Admission. After serving seven years, he accepted his first directorship as University Registrar at Texas A&M International University, in Laredo. After nine years, he made his way back home to Corpus Christi to serve as Executive Director of Recruitment and Admissions at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Serving the underrepresented student population has always been important to Oscar and being able to give back to the higher education community has been at the top of his values. Remaining active and participating in university committees and councils, state professional associations, and national organizational councils is important. TACRAO is one of the associations that Oscar holds close to his heart. To be a part of an organization that supports high education, and the development of young professionals is critical to the future success of our industry. Through active participation in association committees, conference presentations and serving on executive committee his love for higher education grew. Through these same efforts, professional relationships were built, and he was able to give back through the mentoring of young professionals. From helping prospective students and their families through the application processes to enrolling and certifying veteran students to graduating successful citizens of our communities, being student centered and expecting service excellence along the way is what it has always been about. Faith has also been important to Oscar along the way, and he is a strong believer that God puts us where we need to be. This past March, Oscar made the transition from Enrollment Management to Student Affairs. He now serves as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and works with division assessment reporting and strategic planning and serves as Chief of Staff for the Vice President. Having had strong mentors along the way such as Joseph Estrada and Dr. Maggie Hinojosa at TAMU-K, Dr. Minita Ramirez at TAMIU, and Margaret Dechant at TAMU-CC has shaped the professional he is today. Oscar believes that paying it forward is what its’ all about -- mentoring young professionals who are eager to learn and want to be a part of this higher education profession is important to ensure our profession continues to grow and develop with the times. Oscar would like to acknowledge his beautiful wife, Denise, of 25 years who joins him here tonight. She has been the rock by his side through this wonderful life journey. TACRAO, please join me in recognizing Oscar Reyna as TACRAO’s newest honorary member. |
