It is my pleasure to present Honorary Membership to Lorena Rios. Lorena dedicated 25 years of professional work to Laredo College where she served in multiple roles including starting off as a CIS Lab Assistant, the moving into IT Operations, SIS Technology Specialist, Admissions Coordinator, Assistant Registrar, Director of Admissions and Registration, and finally College Registrar and Reporting Official. In 2007, Lorena became part of the Banner Student Implementation team and represented Laredo College with the Texas Connection Consortium. Lorena can be considered a “unicorn” in the enrollment field as she spent her entire educational career serving one institution and was able to successfully serve across the fields of IT, Admissions and Registrar, something you don’t see very often. Early on, Lorena was invited and initiated into Phi Theta Kappa, which is the international honors association for community college students, based on her excellent academic performance in her three (3) Associate Degrees, all in technical computer fields (Computer Science, Computer operations and Computer programming), before receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Applied Technology (Workforce Leadership & Supervision) from the university of Texas at Brownsville. Since 2004, Lorena has shared her skills and expertise with TACRAO, attending numerous summer and annual meetings and serving on various committees. Her willingness to serve and her collaboration with colleagues made her a popular choice when TACRAO needed someone to step into a committee role. Her can-do attitude and positive personality made her a pleasure to work with, and you never saw Lorena without her beautiful smile. Over the years, Lorena has been given many awards and honors including the President’s Excellence Award as the Professional-Technical Employee of the Year, the Teamwork Award for her contributions to New Orientation Development Group, and the Commitment to Excellence Award for her work with the Automated Awarding of Degrees team. It is my pleasure to award yet another honor, TACRAO Honorary Membership. In her bio, Lorena writes, “I truly believe that with faith and dedication, dreams can come true.” You definitely represented that sentiment well. Please join me in congratulating an accomplished member of TACRAO and my/our friend, Lorena Rios. |
