John BrownHonorary Membership (2012) He was very active in TACRAO, as were those who worked for him. Most notably, he served as LAC Chair for the 1980 TACRAO in San Antonio, Vice-President 1984-86, and President 1987-88. He served as President and in other offices in both STARAO and NTCRAO. He was a member and Chair, TACRAO Management & Organization Committee, member of the initial TACRAO Technology Committee, Certification & Legal Issues Committee, and Publications Committee, as well as a frequent presenter and moderator. John had many accomplishments while on the job. At UTSA, he automated transfer evaluations, VA certification, registration (implementing the first touch tone system in Texas), degree audit, and more. He oversaw three SIS switches, and created a one-stop Enrollment Services Center. He was voted Outstanding Professional Staff member at UTSA. He served on the initial Texas Common Course Numbering System committee, participated in Texas ETN (electronic transcript network) and was an early adapter in the move to SPEEDE transcripts. He has fond memories of having the John Wayne Suite for Hospitality at the 1980 TACRAO meeting in San Antonio - and hospitality was very well stocked! He was also proud of leaving a record budget surplus from the 1988 meeting he presided over in Corpus Christi. He also survived an incident in Houston where Don Cates secretly told a bartender that one of his group was carrying a gun, resulting in all lying on the sidewalk being searched by the Police - with no knowledge of why. John retired in 2002 and lives in New Braunfels. He also spends as much time as possible watching the wild game he feeds at his ranch north on Hondo. He and Lynda have been married 52 years, and he counts her as his best friend.
