2024-2025 Updates to TCCNS and ACGM
Both the Texas Common Course Numbering Site (TCCNS) and some of the Academic Course Guide Manual (ACGM) courses have undergone some recent updates.
The TCCNS Site In order to increase the functionality of the TCCNS site, we recently updated our site programming and servers. Pleasevisit and share the TCCNS site with your staff members, counselors, students, and parents.
For those of you who are new to Texas higher education, the TCCNS is designed to facilitate transfer between Texas institutions and you can learn more about that functionality on the “About” and “Goals” pages of our TCCNS site.
Reason for New Site Design
- Increased Functionality: We were able to add some long-requested features from our site administrators (e.g. password update, ability to add new administrators, etc.). We were also able to add some end-user requested features (e.g. ability to view the core curriculum coding, changes to the school comparison tools, etc.)
- Just in case the site is not as intuitive as hoped, we did develop a “How To Guide” that walks both site administrators and external users through the various site features and functionality.
- Updated Look/Design: The aim was to make the site as intuitive as possible for both end users and site administrators, but still achieve the first goal – increasing functionality.
- Expense: As an added bonus, with all the updates, we actually transitioned to a less expensive server and backup server which will likewise mean we should have an overall cost savings related to the TCCNS account.
Note: Some Schools Still Need to Make 2024-2025 Updates If you see that your school’s 2024-2025 course data is missing and you believe data should be present, please click on the TCCNS site’s “Schools” tab to find/notify your school contact and let them know that data appears to be missing. School with missing data may need to use the How To Good to “roll their data”.
If all of your administrators (gray “Admin” tab above their name) are no longer at your institution and you’ve not already done so, please contact the TCCNS inbox with at least one correct contact so that we can give your institution access to their data.
The TCCNS Issues or Questions: Should you encounter any issues with the site and/or areas for which you have questions or need assistance, please send those to us at our [email protected] email address.
ACGM Update
On March 25, 2024, the ACGM Committee met and approved four new PHED courses as new additions to the ACGM inventory. In addition, some permanent description changes were approved for EDUC 1301 and EDUC 2301.
For for those of you who are new to Texas higher education and/or curriculum, the ACGM is also designed to facilitate transfer between Texas institutions. 2-year institutions choose their courses that are designed for transfer from the ACGM manual and 4-year colleges often have courses (typically lower-level) that they can equate to the ACGM via the TCCNS number system alignment.
New Courses Added to Inventory:
- PHED 1350 – Fundamentals of Strength and Conditioning
- PHED 2358 – Psychological Aspects of Human Performance
- PHED 2360 – Introduction to Personal Training
- PHED 2362 – Foundations of Exercise Science
Course Edits – EDUC 1301 and 2301: During COVID, EDUC 1301 and 2301 were modified and it was determined that the 16 contact hours that must be completed for field experience could continue to occur in person or could be completed via electronic, video, or technology-based method. At the last ACGM meeting, the committee voted to approve a motion that keeps the “Up to 16 clock hours of P-12 field experiences may be provided by electronic or other video or technology-based methods” on the course descriptions post-COVID so that institutions can continue to have more control over this field experience requirement.
How to Find New Course Information You will not see these new courses in the stagnant 2021 ACGM pdf Manual that exists on the ACGM site. Instead, you can see the outcome and other related information by using the filtering tool.
Example:
1) Visit the ACGM site: ACGM Lower Division Academic Course Guide Manual (state.tx.us)
2) Select the discipline area you wish to review
3) Select “Run” and scroll through the document to find the desired courses.
To see the full range of real-time, up-to-date courses listed in the ACGM on any given day, simply leave all fields blank and hit 'Run'.
Future ACGM Meeting The next ACGM meeting will occur on October 21, 2024. Following that meeting, the TCCNS committee will likewise update the TACRAO membership of any updates or changes, if applicable.
ACGM Questions
If you have questions about ACGM-related updates, you can email [email protected]
The TCCNS Site and ACGM New Course Intersection Each institution’s TCCNS site administrator(s) were already notified of this update, but the new PHED courses were added to the TCCNS site as of the 2024-2025 catalog year.
What Does This Mean? What this means for you may vary depending on whether you are a two-year or four-year institution and/or a private or public institution.
- If your institution does not currently offer any undergraduate course like any of the new PHED courses, but decides to approve/offer one of these new courses beginning your 2025 spring term (i.e. still on the 2024-2025 catalog year), you could add it to your TCCNS crosswalk for 2024-2025.
- If your institution already offers an undergraduate course you feel you can crosswalk to this new TCCNS number (based on outcome alignment between their description and your current course offerings), then you could likewise build that crosswalk showing that alignment beginning this 2024-2025 year.
- If your institution does not currently offer any undergraduate course that align with any of these courses, but you may want to do so for your 2025-2026 curriculum, no action is needed for this 2024-2025 year. However, when we activate the 2025-2026 curriculum (we’ll send out notifications when that happens), you can then choose to add (or not add) the new ACGM course(s) to your alignment for a future TCCNS catalog years.
